We were asked by the PennDel District of the Assemblies of God to create a network of sites that could operate independently but talk to each other. The solution was a WordPress Multisite install. We installed WordPress at the root and created individual websites for several different ministries.
We used only one theme to unite the websites and make them all look similar, but gave each site it’s own identity. The theme allowed for independent control of colors, logos and structure. And the individual sites also had it’s own individual navigation structure.
We then used the network of sites to populate the home page of penndel.org. Each ministry site could post to the parent site. When you are on the youth website it shows youth related navigation and material but any post on the youth site can be marked to show on the penndel.org home page. It was a great step forward in giving each ministry exclusive control, but allowing the collaboration of information across all sites.
